Swiss Wine Educator

This qualification is intended to provide core knowledge of the wide range of wines produced in Switzerland. The qualification is designed for Educators who are responsible for the training of trade and hospitality employees who need to answer customer queries authoritatively, or make informed selections of Swiss Wines in a variety of situations or working in a supervisory capacity who need to advise management.

The course is suitable for students with the knowledge to the WSET® Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits, but, due require a deeper understanding in order to be able to instruct others in the specificity of Swiss Wine.

The instruction on this course assumes that students are familiar with the concepts introduced and developed on the Intermediate Certificate course and builds upon them. The course may also be suitable for people who are not employed in the drinks industry but wish to learn more about the subject. It is important that potential students appreciate that this is primarily a professional development course for the drinks and hospitality industries and is approached in that way by the tutors.

Curriculum

  • The Swiss vineyard
  • The viticultural regions
  • “Terroir” and the climatic conditions
  • The main grape varieties and the regional “specialities”
  • The Swiss Wine market – current market trends
  • The matching of Swiss Wine with food – theory and in practice

To gain the qualification, candidates are required to successfully complete:

Unit 1 – theory

  • a multiple choice paper of fifty (50) questions
  • a Swiss wine and food matching exercise

Unit 2  – practical

  • the blind tasting of two wines (Swiss)

The examination will be marked and assessed by l’école du vin Sàrl in Switzerland

l’école du vin Sàrl Advanced Certificate in Swiss Wine – “Counsellor in Swiss Wine”

WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits or equivalent

Guided learning hours: It is recommended that the teaching time for the course is no less than 24 hours and should be no more than 36 hours
