Certificate in fruit spirits (clear)

This course is intended for persons requiring a focused level of fruit spirit product knowledge. It is suitable for those with little previous experience but requiring a greater depth of knowledge in the specific category of fruit spirits than that offered by the WSET® Level 2 Award in Spirits.

This course offers focused coverage of all the fruit spirit styles and end use of the identified products together with tasting technique.

  • Production, Distillation and Introduction to tasting
  • Common faults & styles of fruit spirits
  • Finishing methodology; aromas; Liqueurs and “Vieille” products
  • Customer information and advice (storage)
To gain the Certificate in Fruit Spirits qualification candidates will be required to:

Successfully complete:


  • a multiple choice paper of 50 questions
  • a written tasting note (generic)


  • Two (2) tasting notes
  • Correctly identify faults and aromas of a series of samples
  • Portfolio of Tasting Notes (completed during the course

Required prior knowledge: – WSET® Level 1 Award in Spirits; WSET® Level 2 Award in Spirits. – An advantage: WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines 

(N.B. if you are not sure, contact us, so that we can help you choose the course level according to your needs and objectives).

Guided learning hours: – It is recommended that a candidate should allocate a minimum of 28 hours of study to successfully complete the full programme. The hours will usually be a combination of taught and private study time. It is recommended that the teaching delivery time is no less than 8 hours

Progression Routes – Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Fruit Spirits course, the candidate may progress to the following qualifications:

WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines: – The WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines is designed to give a thorough understanding of the factors that account for the style, quality and price of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world. The qualification will assist those who are required to make professional evaluations of wines with regards to their style, quality and price. The qualification provides the in-depth product knowledge required to underpin job skills and competencies, for example in product selection in the retail and hospitality sectors
